Every year, 40% of the Trust’s net income is invested in opportunities that will bring transformational change to the region.
Community Funding
60% of the Trust’s net income each year goes towards local community funding and grants for energy-related projects.
The Trust Horizon story
Trust Horizon first began back in 1994. Originally named the Bay of Plenty Electricity Consumer Trust, it was formed with the goal of keeping a portion of the local electricity company under community ownership.
In 2000, the Trust was renamed the Eastern Bay Energy Trust (EBET), and over the next 20 years grew into a large fund with a diverse and robust portfolio of assets. In 2015, the Trust obtained 100% ownership of Horizon Energy Group, which includes the lines company that distributes electricity to homes and businesses throughout the Eastern Bay.
In early 2020, it was time for the Trust to continue its evolution. A new strategic direction was announced, focusing on impact investment that creates long-term change. To capture that forward-thinking spirit, EBET was rebranded to Trust Horizon.
Today, Trust Horizon is committed to investing in projects that bring transformational change to the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Driving the region forward, and bringing prosperity and pride to its people.

Our board of Trustees is six members strong. A skilled and passionate group of representatives from across the Eastern Bay, our Trustees work with the Trust Horizon team to bring change to the region.
