The competition to fill the shoes of departing Trustee Wade Brown was fierce. But corporate lawyer Merrin Stables stood out from the crowd of 40 applicants, landing the coveted role as the Eastern Bay Energy Trust’s newest appointed Trustee.

With 20 years spent practicing law, a decade in the electricity industry, and a strong focus on corporate governance, Stables proved a natural fit for the Trust. When asked what drew her to the position, she explains that the chance to create long-lasting change within the community was hard to pass up. “I’ve been impressed with the projects EBET has undertaken that facilitate growth within the Eastern Bay, and make it a better place to live,” she says. “I’ve lived here for 16 years now, and I’m passionate about longer-term projects that make a real difference to the area.”

EBET Chairman Aaron Milne says he and the team were delighted with the high number of quality applicants for the role. “This is the first time we’ve seen such breadth and depth of applicants,” he says. “It feels like a strong reflection of the new direction the Trust is heading.”

Milne believes Stables will play a valuable part in continuing that bold new trajectory. “Merrin brings a lot of relevant industry experience to the table, and we’re thrilled to welcome her on board,” he says. “We’d also like to acknowledge the tremendous contribution Wade has made over the years. His commercial acumen and great personality will be missed.”

While Brown has enjoyed his 12-year tenure with the trust immensely, the experienced business owner felt that now was the right time for him to take a step back. “I think the Trust is ready for a fresh perspective,” he explains. “I wish them all the very best for the future. It’s in good hands.”

As for Stables, she’s ready to hit the ground running in her new role. “Energy is something that impacts every one of us,” she says. “I’m excited to play a part in pushing the Eastern Bay forward, and helping build the community for the better.”
