Scholarships Available in 2018
Due to the serious shortage of young people in the electricity supply industry, the Trust has set up an education and training programme to attract new entrants into the industry. This includes the provision of scholarships for electrical trade training. The electricity supply industry covers the generation, transmission, distribution and retailing of electricity in New Zealand.
Students entering the third year of the Bachelor of Engineering (electrical) degree – heavy power option, are also eligible to apply for the Horizon Energy Scholarship, which is a two year scholarship offered in conjunction with the Eastern Bay Energy Trust.
Residents within the Trust’s area, i.e. Eastern Bay of Plenty (namely Whakatane, Opotiki, Kawerau Districts and Kaingaroa Village) can apply for scholarships, which contribute towards the fees for the pre-trade, diploma or degree courses.
The scholarship programme is structured to cover all or part of the candidate’s course fees, on a year-by-year basis. Scholarship funding for subsequent years is provisional upon the candidate providing evidence of having completed the prior year’s study satisfactorily. The Trust gives no guarantee of ongoing scholarship funding.
Applications are currently open for the Trust’s Scholarship programme, which supports pre-trade, diploma and degree courses for study within energy-related fields.
